4 basic principles of survival are: PROTECTION, LOCATION. WATER & FOOD.
Our best form of PROTECTION is to get out of the hostile environment (crash site) into shelter as the first step of survival. During this step we must also protect ourselves from loss of blood and infection of the body through wounds.
While surviving thus, our next course of action should be to let other people know where we are to find us and to take us away from the unusual situation quickly for a normal way of life.
In other words, we must give our LOCATION with the help of location aids we have in the survival packs to the search and rescue party. It will be an unpardonable mistake if we spread out to obtain water first and an aircraft flew over the crash site and we could nor attract its attention.
Once we have given our location to the search and rescue party, we can go for finding any source of WATER for drinking
To live healthily, we need FOOD. But we must know that a man can live without food for about a month provided we have water with us. Protein and Carbohydrates are the main categories of food. Protein needs more water than carbohydrates to be utilized into our body. Therefore, if we have no water, we do not eat any food and if we have less water, we eat carbohydrates only.
So for survival, the order of priorities must be PROTECTION, LOCATION, WATER and FOOD.
